I have been teaching and working with students for the past three years, and I am available to tutor high school and university students in the humanities in general and English and History specifically.
ESSAY WRITING
Tutors cannot write your essay for you but they can nurture specific essay writing skills. These include honing sentence and paragraph structure, deciding what to argue (and when), how to use correct citations and relevant resources, and most importantly, how to write to be read.
READING & ANALYSIS
Reading is presented as a quantitative exercise but is actually more about planning and strategy. Tutors can help students become more strategic readers. This includes learning how to locate a thesis, developing a critical eye for evaluating different types of evidence, identifying stylistic and grammatical flaws, and making useful notes on what to re-read.
ENGLISH & HISTORY
My background is in English and History. I can help students with specific thematic content encountered in a variety of English and History subjects and courses. I can also introduce students to some of the more advanced skills required of them by each discipline as their studies progress or as they begin applying to university.
